ADVOCACY ACADEMY

Held four times a year, CASA’s Advocacy Academy is a 30-hour Training Course designed to prepare future CASA volunteers for the unique challenges and rewards of child advocacy work. In order to be assigned to a case as a child advocate for CASA, volunteers must complete the Advocacy Academy Training Course and be sworn-in by a Denton County Judge.

Training is conducted over a four-week period, consisting of 30 hours including in-class and self-study. CASA offers both daytime and evening sessions. Participants in the Academy learn about advocating for abused and neglected children from CASA staff, judges, therapists, child protective services workers, foster parents, and others in the community with whom CASA works regularly.

After training is completed, a volunteer advocate will be offered his/her first case. Every advocate is paired with a CASA staff member, or Casework Supervisor, who provides continued, one-on-one guidance and support throughout the case.
