Fund a Child: stories of healing, advocacy, and hope

During our Fund a Child campaign, we share real stories of lives impacted by the work we do. Each year, we serve over 500 Denton County children, all with different stories. No matter their story, all of them will be looking to CASA for compassion, advocacy, and hope. When you donate to the Fund a Child Campaign, you can be a lifeline for a child in crisis.

Meet Ella and Ethan

A gunshot shattered the stillness as bounty hunters crashed into Ella and Ethan’s home, searching for their father, a fugitive wanted for violent crimes. Chaos erupted, leaving the siblings terrified and exhausted. After they were placed in state custody by Child Protective Services, Kim became their CASA advocate, visiting them regularly, seeing that their needs were being met while in foster care, and monitoring mom’s progress toward getting them back. Kim celebrated when their mother created a safe home away from violence, and she could recommend to the judge that the children return to her care.

meet maya

Maya started her path in the world with multiple fractures to her arms and legs and malnutrition, having endured abuse by her parents just weeks after birth. She was placed in foster care, and Richard became her CASA. He was there for her first two years of life, advocating to ensure her needs were met and making informed recommendations to the court. Richard tirelessly served as Maya’s CASA from the time she was a helpless infant until her adoption as a spirited, sassy two-year-old. As he walked alone from Maya’s adoption hearing, he knew her future was bright.

MEET NOAH

Nine-year-old Noah faced immense challenges, with a terminally ill father and a mother who abandoned him and his sister, leaving them in poverty and at risk of homelessness. After entering foster care, Liam became his CASA advocate, playing a crucial role in navigating the child welfare system. Recognizing Noah’s passion for music, Liam worked with his foster mom to enroll him in piano lessons, providing needed structure and increased self-esteem. From their first meeting until Noah’s adoption, Liam’s unwavering presence and tireless advocacy ensured Noah’s voice was heard and he was set up to thrive.

MEET Jordyn

Seven-year-old Jordyn lived in uncertainty, surrounded by her parents’ drug use. After being left alone in a car during a shoplifting incident, she was removed from their custody. CASA advocate Sharon recognized her need for a safe home and fought for her to live with her grandmother. Amid the crisis, Jordyn fell behind in school, prompting Sharon to prioritize her educational needs. She coordinated meetings with teachers, arranged tutoring, and took Jordyn to the library. After months of dedication, Jordyn was adopted by her grandmother. Thanks to Sharon’s support, Jordyn found a loving home and the encouragement to thrive.
